Hi,

If I've received a Publisher document which has been saved in a more recent version to what I have on my PC, how do I open it ?

I can't find any mention on the Microsoft web site of a Publisher viewer (like there is for Word and Excel).

I do hope you can help me.

Regards,
Jay/UK

Sorry, but AFAIK, if you have a document created in Publisher 2003 you need Publisher 2003 to open it.

Enjoy,
Tony

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your reply.

Since writing I spoke to the person who created the document and they've re-saved it in Publisher 98 format which we can open fine.

I also discovered a Pack and Go feature which does a similar job (but in a much more complicated way), but the disadvantage is that it creates an EXE file which is hardly suitable for e-mailing someone because our firewall (in common with many) blocks them.

I still can't understand why there isn't a Publisher viewer, so if anyone knows why, I'd be pleased to know.

Regards,
Jay/UK

Hi Jay,

You can always zip an exe (or change the extension) to get it through a firewall. That said, I do sympathise with you; Microsoft's policy of changing file formats without providing compatibility may have some benefits but it alienates customers.

Enjoy,
Tony
