PSD File Compression.

Quick Question to the world on file type compresion....
I'm using an HP UltriumI SCSI - compression on Adobe PSD files appears shockingly bad. Anyone else seen this.
I know that they are 'lossless' image files, but thought that backup may have been able to squeeze them....

Any info on the PSD file format / compression would be appreciated...
