Hi - hopefully this is quite a simple question that someone can help me with.

It seems that if you protect an excel spreadsheet it will stop the hyperlink from working?

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have a hyperlink that will work in a protected cell.
I have a range of cells containing both hyperlinks and formulae which are unlikely to survive if they are not protected.

Thanks for your help.

What version of Excel?

My Excel 2000 will hyperlink to the web if the cell is locked and the sheet is protected.

What are you H-Ling to?

Hi - it's just a link to various points in the same spreadsheet (named references on other worksheets)
I'm using excel XP to build it, but it has to work in excel 97... or at least not crash in excel 97.

So is it NOT working in Excel 97?

When the cells are protected, the links stop working.
This is happening in both XP and 97.

Cells are not protected.

Sheets are protected. Cells are locked. Or not.

XP is your op sys. What VERSION of Excel in XP?

There must be something else going on. My Excel 2000 in XP hyperlinks from sheet to Named range on another sheet, with all cells locked, all sheets protected and workbook protected.

In my Excel97 protection does not stop hyperlinks working. I am using a 'named location in file" of:
Sheet1!A2

Try a new workbook and some simple hyperlinks?

It seems to stop the links from working if you set the protection to not alllow the selection on locked cells........ which I suppose makes sense really.
Slightly annoying as would rather have it set up to just allow unlocked cells to be selected, but never mind.

Thanks for helping.
