protect sharepoint from virus

One of our customers is in piloting Sharepoint Portal Server.
To become productive i've got the challenge to secure the system against virus-infection and malicius-coded documents. how can i manage to protect the database preventively and keep it clean?

They have Antigen for Sharepoint Portal Server.
It works the same way as Antigen for Exchange.

Antigen for Exchange is a great product and we also have it for SPS

SP is just a website on your internal network, so protect it as such. Have a good internal AV policy (daily updates etc) and don't allow macros to be run. I also recommend a good ISP which guarentees against viruses (known or unknown) such as Star, as email is much more likly to let the viruses in. Steve Hewitt

Steve you are not right about this. Sharepoint Portal Server has a database. The format of the database is ESE98 (like exchange 2000)
Sharepoint Team Services doesn't have a database.

About the AV policy i would do it (and already does) a little different.

To disable the macro functions in would help you to protect yourself against virus, but also close most of the nice features in MS Office.
If we blocked use of macro in our shop the company would come to a halt. Eg. all workflow done in MS Office would stop working.

I agree with the Macro thing, we still use macros at the moment!

OK, its a database - but the principle is still the same. Just an AV Policy. We run SQL server and a email server (like exchange, its called DvISE from Tobit, anyone heard of it?) but theres no special software for AV protection.

I don't want to sound like a salesman, but Star guarentees no viruses will get through via email. Well, if your AV Policy is good then it won't be a problem? Ban floppys/CD's unless you've checked them - and emails will be clean. I'm sure you have a AV add on to Exchange (something like MIMEsweeper) but SP doesn't need such a thing.

Its not specifically recieveing anything from an external network unlike exchange. I don't know of any special products for SP and I doubt there will be one. Its a DB of file info, thats all. Think of it as SQL Server - you don't need anything aslong as you keep up to date with MS security patches (which can be a challenge by itself!) and update your DAT's on your AV app daily.

But if I understand it right SPS version 2 will use SQL as the database.

FYI Sharepoint Team Services creates a database in SQL. That is assuming that SQL is loaded on your server.
