propertygrid dropdown options

I've seen plenty of examples on how to display some sort of dropdown list as an item in the propertygrid, but I'm having trouble figuring out how I am supposed to tell one selected value from the next. Is there some way that I can associate an index key to each of the items in the list? Is it possible for each item to have both a display string and an object (int, guid, etc) behind it?

Has anybody seen a clear useful tutorial on this?
