A friend set up an SBS2003 server and accidentally created a domain. What is the proper way to remove this server/domain? Do I need to run dcpromo, follow the wizard, then join the workgroup?

Thanks,
-Marc

If you don't wish to have a domain you can re-run dcpromo to remove it (Windows Active Directory), Make sure you choose last domain controller for this domain. Note: I am not well veresed with SBS as I don't use it so, I am assuming it's the same, just double check on the microsoft site to make sure.

Worked fine, Thank you

SBS has to be in it's own domain at the top of the AD tree. If you dcpromo SBS down, it will shutdown after a few hours of operational as technically that configuration is against the EULA of SBS....

MiniOrganMorgan is correct, SBS has to be on its own domain, if you have an existing domain, you cannot join sbs to it and you can not run sbs as a stand alone server, it has to be a dc.

only way around this is to get a copy of 2k3 standard

Understood, but the whole shutdown after a few hours is just not true, it's been up and running for 3 days now.

Sorry, got my timings mixed up, I've been led to believe that an SBS box will shut itself down after a period of time if is not it's own domain.
