I need to set up a second internet connection with a secondary provider for redundency to our facility.

We are going to get an AS number and set up BGP.

I need to make sure our contract w/ the secondary provider will force them to make sure we will be able to work BGP. Can anyone tell me what exactly the secondary provider needs to provide in terms of BGP. For example do they need to "advertise our AS number..."?

Our ip address range is assigned from our primary provider.

You just need to verify that they will advertise your addresses, not specifically your ASN. Your ASN will be included in routing updates but it's your prefix size that you need to worry about. Generally speaking, you'll be fine as long as you have at least a /24. Anything smaller will probably be filtered somewhere.

Have you thought about simply getting another connection to the same ISP? Many ISPs offer geographic diversity that might add sufficient redundancy to meet your needs.
