Promoting server to Domain Controller

When running the wizard or dcpromo, I go through all the steps but get a "Active Directory Installation Failed - A general network error occurred." dialog box.
My NIC is active, busily transmitting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
 
I found this which might help.
When you run Dcpromo to promote a server to a domain controller, you receive:

A general network error occurred - Error 2136

Flat name validation of DOMAIN failed with 2136

Request for promotion returning 2136
These errors will occur if the Client for Microsoft Networks and the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks components are NOT installed. These components are required for the creation of the Netlogon and Sysvol shares.
After installing these components, run Dcpromo.
