Dear All

I need to promote our office (Win2k) server to a domain controller but as part of the installation process the existing local ('SAM') accounts will be deleted. Is there any way to avoid this - ie export the 'SAM' information into Active Directory. I don't fancy having to recreate all the accounts by hand and then assign permissions again.

Thanks all....

What makes you think the accounts will disapear? I know when you set up active directory the local users and groups becomes dis-abled, but I think you have to set up AD. Upgrading alone might not cause your grief. I'd do a little more research, unless you plan on setting up a domain and running AD. Glen A. Johnson

During the AD installation procedure you are warned that:

'Proceding with this option will delete all local accounts on this server.'

Everything I've looked at so far point to this but I'm assuming there must be a way around it?

Thanks

There might be, but I don't want to point you in the wrong direction. Check out and see if there's anything there. Glen A. Johnson
