I am trying to setup a DL380 G1 server with both SCSI drives (for the OS and some storage) and IDE drives (for backup, extra storage).

My goal is to boot off the SCSI drives (4x18.2 connected via SmartArray 3200) and once the OS is loaded i intend to have access to the IDE drives (connected via 3rd party PCI IDE card). I diden't think this was such a rediculous thing to do, but I am having alot of trouble.

With the PCI IDE card and drive present, the machine appears to find both the SCSI drive array and the IDE drive, but then procedes to try to boot off the IDE drive. I cant seem to force the machine to boot off of the SCSI drives. When the PCI IDE card is removed, the system boots off the SCSI drives normally.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks - Dan

More Details:
I have tried 3 different PCI IDE cards:
1. Adaptec Ultra ATA/133
2. Silicon Image Ultra ATA/133
3. Promise Fastrack 100 TX2
I have tried changing the boot order in the compaq configuration utility - SmartArray 3200 is "first", IDE PCI card can only be enabled/disabled, I cant assign it a first/second/third value. I updated the bios to the latest release.

will never work
the device will not accept ide drives
compaq server are just simply design as that ie it's a worls of scsi
the cd seems to be the exception

your option is to consider nas storage
