Hi
I'm looking at a nice application called dotproject ( but since I'm in a shared hosting plan I'm having problems with the installation, I keep getting connection errors, I already contacted customer support and will be waiting for an answer

In the meantime though I'd like to explore other applcations that people in this forum can recommend for Project Management.

Have any of you used/still_use a tool like this with good experiences? could you provide me with some links and names for similar products?
I'm new to PHP but not to programming and development, so be as tekkie as you want.

Thanks in advance.

We use dotproject here. Installing it was pretty simple. Took me about 10 minutes, and most of that was reading the docs and changing the config file to point to the correct addresses.

What sort of problem are you having?

great!!
when editing the config file I think the Root_dir value is not correct. I asked my Hosting provider and they confirmed that the value is "/var/ " that's pretty much standard.

This is the error message I get:

Warning: main(./style/default/login.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/ on line 132

when I run the "System Checks" under the /docs folder I get an error
Warning: mysql_get_server_info(): A link to the server could not be established in /var/ on line 22

I didn't have a problem when installing at home but now I'm trying to get it on a website that has a PHP/MySQL package.
It has to do with my provider I guess. I keep working to find the problem. File permissions maybe??

Unless you are the only user on their system, '/var/ seems incorrect. Your user name should be in that path somewhere.

Why is everyone in this forum responding to me as picklefish?

I was able to figure out the problem thanks to the tech support from the hosting company.

It was really stupid but SmartFTP didn't copy the last folder that I uploaded and the files were not even in the server. I copied the files again and this time I made sure they were there.

THe other issue I had, my provider recommended not to use localhost as the value for my db_host variable but isntead use 127.0.0.1. That was fixed and now I can see Dotproject on the web, pretty cool piece of software.
