Anyone had much exposure to Project 'Longhorn' yet (those that don't know, the next version of Windows)

We've only just finished an install to see what its like.

Most interesting part is going to be getting our teeth in to the new File system WinFS

On 'first' impressions there seems to be some strange Services installed.

Can anyone explain the concept behind the HTTP SSL (HTTPS) service?

it just seems, strange

I can understand the IPSec service that forces client server conversation, but not the HTTPS service.

Main confusion point is how will it be implemented or enforced?

HTTPS precedes Longhorn.
Has little to do with Longhorn.

Google HTTPS

You need an SSL root authority service.

I am curious as to why this is "unusual."

'Different' would have been better

there now seems to be separate SSL and HTTPS services rather than an HTTP SSL service

just an observation , if anything

ah well
