programs starting really slowly 1

Hi,

I have a fairly high spec tosh satelite p4m 2ghz with 512mb ram, but it takes ages for when I start up applications like word, photoshop.

I suspect it has something to do with norton system works 2003 which i have as a message in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen says "requesting virus scan". (I have xp home sp1 and systemworks 2003 v 6.01 build57)

Any suggestions how i can speed up this sluggish machine?

Check control panel for Hotfix update Q811493, if installed then remove and restart, please post back result

I have read about the problems with this hotfix but unfortunately it is not installed.

Donwload and run Microsoft's Bootvis.exe tool.

Do a Trace, Next boot
reboot
Do a Trace, Optomize
and let it reboot.

This will get you started a little sooner. But your Photoshop problems, and relatedly, your Winword problems are likely due to filters in Photoshop and Acrobat PDF support in both cases.

Hopefully Acrobat 6 at the end of the month will reduce the overhead now required to load applications with PDF support.
