I have an annoying issue with missing programs in the "Uninstall or change a program" section. Should have 40-50 programs, but only 15 show. Running Win 7 64bit.

Other posts suggest looking in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Winows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall section of the registry and checking that there are no DisplayName keys >64 characters in length, or DisplayIcon keys with -1 value. I've tried both of these, without joy.

Strangely, there aren't many entries in the above reg location. Firefox, for example, doesn't show.

Any ideas?

Are you sure you aren't using "portable" versions of the programs? If you used portable versions, they wouldn't show in the add/remove programs section..

No, they're all non-portable such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro ...

They show in the uninstall section of CCleaner, but not using Microsoft's own uninstall panel! I did a registry clean. Same problem.

This is becoming quite a common question, unfortunately the answer is not so common. This is a discussion about the matter but with no known solution but might be worth a read as it offers several things to check.

win 7 add/remove program list not populating correctly

One thing that gets mentioned often is the use of Registry Cleaners like CCleaner, whether that is the cause or not, who knows.

If you sort your current list by "Installed On" date, and then uninstall the most recent entry, I wonder if that might resurrect the full list? Even if that does the expected "nothing", that date is a good point to look at what might have happened on your machine at around that time and date.

Are your Windows Updates correctly listed, are any of them missing from any list?

That's a good link linney. Thanks

Ccleaner is not related to the problem as I installed it after I had the issue. I was just surprised that this excellent FREE program managed to pick up ALL the program entries.

One of the last programs I installed was HyperCam.
Another user had a similar issue ...

I'm not in any way laying the blame of this issue with the makers of this software, just noting a similarity.

I can vouch for what I've seen so far with CCleaner - Installed on at least a handful of Windows 7 machines - some custom built, some laptops, OEM desktops, etc. Not once seen this issue... not saying it still couldn't have caused it, but just haven't seen it on said systems... and of course multiple Vista and XP setups.
