Program Freezes: Computer or Lite-On Drive?

I have a DVD-RW disc in my Lite-On burner drive with files I've saved on it. When I open Photoshop and use the File Browser to access the psd files I have on the disc the program freezes and I have to shut down the computer and turn it back on to get control of it again.

I am wondering if this is because of the Lite-On drive or the fault of something on my computer? I know that the Lite-On drive reads sluggishly at times. I can stick a disc in and it often takes a full minute or more for the open dialogue to appear.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I wanted to add that I just ran a Nero CD-DVD Speed test (on the Lite-On drive with the same DVD-RW in it) and it stopped halway through with an error: L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR (031105).

I find this odd, because I can buy brand new DVD-RW or CD-R/RW discs from Memorex to Fuji and I am always getting these bizarre errors. I don't know if it's maybe my apartment (too dusty or something?) or what it could be. I get a lot of bad discs, even with my DVD player I get one bad disc for every four or six I buy. The discs will be fine and play a while and then all of sudden I get stops and freezes. It seems bizarre how this also happens with the discs I buy to use in the Lite-On.

Maybe my friends are right, and I'm just electronically cursed. lol

By the way, this drive is only a year old, and it has the latest firmware update (JSOC). I tried running another Nero test on a different DVD-RW and I got another error: Media Load or Eject Failed (045300). I tried another disc and got another error: Logical Block Address Out of Range (052100).

This is very odd.

Get yourself a DVD head cleaner. Sounds like you may have dust on the laser.

Well I ran a Memorex DVD head cleaner in the Lite-On. I then copied the files onto another DVD-RW which this time I formatted using Nero InCD. After that I tried the Nero test on another DVD-RW. It got through the whole test this time without any error messages. The results can be seen here:

I don't know anything about what these tests mean so if anyone can take a look and tell me how it is I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Guess not. I figured it out anyway. Thanks for the replies (??).
