Hi Folks,

In the process of finishing a new 2000 setup...all was working fine. I had copied desktop.ini from the ghost image of the user's previous Win 2000 hard drive, dumped them in winnt, winnt32, trying to get the user's original desktop back. Anyway...after rebooting, the Program Files folder is now stuck on "read-only." I can right click on the folder, choose properties, uncheck "read-only", apply, ok, but to no effect. I've searched thru the registry for something that might provide a clue. Argh...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

OD

That sounds like an awful lof of work! What was on the desktop that they need so badly? If they are just icons, you can always copy those over - but desktop.ini isn't going to do you any good.

The new location in windows 2000 for profile settings is c:\documents and settings\user - im not sure what you were aiming for when you said you were putting them in \winnt, and \winnt32?

Just start fresh with a new desktop configuration, and only restore things that cannot be duplicated. Desktop settings can be easily duplicated. I would undo what you just did, and build only using the new PC's configuration - not the ghosted one. pbxman
