I have a scenario.

We are replacing PCs for a bunch of users.
They are all using LOCAL PROFILES.

Question: Is there a difference from simply copying the profile from Windows Explorer vs. the COPY TO from SYSTEM PROPERTIES?

I am placed with doing this but do not understand, except for the desktop icons, why I would need the old settings.
Would it even work with the new systems?
One type is from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows XP Pro.
The other is simply Windows XP Pro to Windows XP Pro.

Hope this helps. Let me know.

An Explorer copy will fail as it will be unable to copy some protected files. In additon, there are some subtle differences in the desktop.ini files for shell folders that are solved with the System, Profile tool.

Having said that, you can, observing the caustions, do the copy in Explorer if that is your choice:
If you do nothing, each user will be given a profile that is a copy the Default User Profile. You can make this what you need:

Hi bcastner,

I've also read the same link you had inserted. But thank you.

I thought if I had logged in to the PC in question with an Administrator account, then copying the entire folder would be same, if not, better than doing it via the System Properties. No? At least I know I CAN copying all contents within that folder.

Hope this helps. Let me know.
