I have a Win2k Pro machine that whenever it is logged on as a specific user the error "explorer.exe has generated errors" comes up as soon as the profile loads. Nothing can be done at this point except power-off the machine. I initially thought the profile was corrupt but deleting it and letting it recreate itself did not help. So I figured the copy on the server was corrupt but that is not the case either. No other computer has trouble loading this particular user account. The troublesome computer has no problem with any other user account except for the one. I've forced 2000 to run scandisk on bootup, I've scanned for viruses, I've re-applied the service pack (SP2)-- all to no avail. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen. I'm stumped. Anyone seen this before?

I think this is a known bug that was fixed with service pack 3. I noticed you reinstalled sp2. Try upgrading to sp3 and you'll probably find your system alot more stable overall...

Thanks Ares. I had thought of applying SP3 but I've been told that 3 is of more use on Server as opposed to Pro. Since I've never seen a Win2k computer (or NT for that matter) act in such a bizarre fashion (except when the profile was corrupt), I just went ahead and re-applied 2. Wish I could try it, but one of the administrators has already begun reloading it. If it still misbehaves, I'll try 3. Thanks again.

Just spoke to the administrator who began reloading the image -- she says she tried SP3 and it didn't work. Sorry Ares, no cigar :)
