Hello,

I'm running a XP Pro machine with was attached to my domain. When I reinstalled OS on the domain controller and renamed and setup the domain the same way as before, it created the new SIDS for the local station.Once the domain was setup, I logged in to the local workstation, under the local admin profile, and remove the worksation from the old domain, then I rebooted and logged in as the local admin and rejoined the domain..

this is where my problem is, under windows 2000 you were able to browse to the doc and settings folder and copy over any profile created to your new profile. Bascially what I trying to get to here is, I need to copy my old profile , which was an domain adminstrator account, to my new user i created on the reinstalled domain controller. Is there some software out there that will do this, I have already went to the advanced tab under my computer and tried to transfer the profile from there, but the old profile is not visable, any help is accpreciated..

thanks

Does the profile exist? Should be in c:\documents and settings. What I normally do is login as the new user, then log off. I login as the local administrator, and copy the old profile on top of the new one. Sometimes you can even get away with deleting the new profile, and renaming the old one with the exact name of the new profile.

If you are logged in as local administrator with rights to the entire file syste, then its gone. Not much help we can be. This happens sometimes, I always make a backup of a profile to a separate location (for example, I use c:\safe) before attaching to a new domain. I usually dump the contents of the temp and temporary internet files so I don't have to sit there and copy a bunch of junk, but better safe than to login and see your profile get wiped out.
