I installed a new machine with windows 2003 standard edition and made it as the first domain controller in the LAN. All the systems in the LAN where getting authenticated through an NT Domain before. When i made the new installation, i kept the NT domain shut down and gave the same domain name to the new domain controller.
My problem is that when my clients connect to the new domain controller they couldnt get their old desktop and their office suite. What i noticed what that a new profie for the domain user was created when it logged for the first time to the new domain controller - even though the name of the domain is same, only difference is that the new domain controller is a new machine and new OS.
Appreciate, if some body could help in fixing this profile problem. I tried copying the old profile to the new profile, but outlook doesnt open at all and office asks for the name of the user every time it opens a new document or excel sheet.

The domain name is the same, but the domain SID is different. That is why you get a new profile, because it IS actually a completely different domain.

There is a way to link the old profile to the new using the registry, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.
