I'm attempting to use Procomm 2.4.1 to communicate with a piece of sensor equipment. I am using a serial (9pin) to USB converter. The sensor manual suggests that Procomm should default to the following parameters:

Port: COM1
Baud Rate: 19200
Parity: None
Bits: 8
Protocol: Xon/Xoff

I have checked these settings in both Procomm as well as the device properties for the Serial to USB. They match. When I have Procomm running and switch the sensor on, I see characters such as "Ç??" on the screen.

The manual says that if everything is configured properly, I should receive a prompt for the device.

I have tried several different Baud values, each yielding a different output, but still unreadable characters.

Thanks for any help!

What terminal type? VT100 is a common one, maybe you have a mis-match there?
