recently i bought one p4 processor and accidently one of the pin is broken. and i still tested it out and seem that its still working. but just want to know is that really no giving any problem ? or will it in the future?
I am intrigued by how you broke a single pin.
I am also surprised that you "had the bottle" to put it in a machine.
But more than anything, I am really amazed that you didn't return to the retailer or wholesaler and say, " this chip I bought has got a pin missing...".
Are you sure there is a pin missing?
OR does it just look like a pin is missing.
What you might be seeing is the one that is supposed to be
missing, because there was never one there, Its for alignment.
no. i am sure that there is a pin broken. and i return back to the retailer but they san they cant do anything. and they ask me to contact direct to intel and i did. they promise to send a person to collect the processor and replacement within three weeks. but seems that it quite long already about two months back, so i don't think they will keep this going on.
Here is a link to Intel spec sheet for P4 socket 478. You should be able to determine the function of the missing pin from this.
As you can see there are a bazillion power (Vss) and ground (Vss) pins. I would guess that you are missing one of these and it probably won't hurt a thing.
Let us know what it was!
How did you do it again ? I had trouble getting the chip out of that bloody packaging it fell to the floor about 3ft and quite a few pins bent but none broke, 1 hour later the pins were straight and it worked fine, new P4 3G £549 doh!
