Hi everyone!
Maybe someone can help me with a bring problem i have.
I was gonna open an image file, but when i was looking at the properties, right where it says "Type of file" and the where is says "Opens with" i click the "Change" button and by mistake i changed it to notepad. And now everytime i double click the file, it opens up with the notepad. I have the image on cd but when i browse the cd its also with the notepad extension. My question is How can i change it back to its default type of files as the image?

GranPhilar,

What you did was change the file association properties of all jpeg's (or whatever your image is...gif, bmp...etc)

Open up "Control Panel", then "Folder Options". Click on the "File Types" tab at the top. In the large box at the top you will find a list of every file extension that your PC is aware of and the associated program its been told to use when opening that particular file. Scroll down the list until you find the 3 letter file extension of your image. Select it, then you have two options. Click the "Restore" button and windows will switch back to using the original program to open these type of files.

Or, click the "Change" button to pick a different program. Next, a new window will open asking to pick the appropriate program that you want to open this file. Scroll through the list of programs until you find your image viewer, Internet Explorer, Paint Program, or whatever you want to use to view the file. If the program you are looking for is not in the list, click the "Other..." button. Now, search through your computer and find the .exe file of the program you want to use to open these image files. Click "Ok" and then "Ok" again. Now try and open your file.

Hope this helps.

A slightly quicker way to the same end

From Windows explorer highlight a file of the type you've a problem with. Hold down shift and right click the file name. Choose 'open with' from the menu, select the app you want to use and ensure the check box for 'always use this program to open this type of file' is selected.

This should change the asssociation so that double clicking a file name uses the app you want.
