After having rebuilt my XP Home system following a disc contoller failure which crunched both hard discs, I cannot now get it to communicate with two other systems which used to work fine before the crash happened. I have tried following all the Microsoft 'How to...' instructions without success. The two connections are:
1. 1394 Lan connection to a Win 98 (not SE) system. This appears to be dead from the XP end but the Win 98 system recognises the cable being plugged/unplugged and the LED glows on the connector. Can't PING either way. What should be displayed on the XP system Network Connections/Properties for this device if it is set up correctly?
2. Direct Cable Connection to a Win 2000 Pro system. PING works both ways but keep getting the message that 'the user has not been granted the requested logon type'. Similar problems with DCC on the Win 98 system. All users appear to be set up OK.
SP1 has been applied to the XP Home system. Runs McAfee firewall but even with this turned off, the same problems occur.
Any suggestions on where to start looking?
