Hello all, my company has recently patched against the infamous MS Metafile image exploit that hit the internet a couple of weeks ago. Since then we've found a lovely little snafu that MS hasn't found a solution for - hopefully someone here has.
The problem ONLY happens on computers that had NT4 and were upgraded to XP. After the patch has been applied, when a user tries to view a TIF file directly via Internet Explorer they are prompted with a save/open box.
Now here's the problem - no matter if they actually click OPEN every time or if they try to tell IE to "always OPEN" - the TIF fails to open and produces a "WANG IMAGE VIEWER ERROR" message.
If the user choses to save the same TIF to their desktop, then run from the desktop by double-clicking it - the file opens with the standard "Picture and Fax Viewer" with no problem. - this extra step is starting to drive my users crazy!!!
I've found this KB article which provides no resolution:
I should say that we've tried to re-register the DLL in question and it has not helped. No matter where/how we try to re-associate the TIF with another program, it doesn't help.
Any advise from the battlegrounds would be greatly appreciated!
