Hi

I am having some problems with configurate two routers. They are locally and one is connected to other. The serial 0 is connected on serial 1 to another router. On both sides, the serial is up but the line protocol is DOWN and don´t get to ping each other.

The encapsulation is HDLC on both and they are directly connected.

The configuration are:

Router1

Ethernet0 is up, line protocol is up
Hardware is Lance, address is xxxx.xxxx.xxxx (bia xxxx.xxxx.xxxx)
Internet address is 192.168.8.1/24
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 10000 Kbit, DLY 1000 usec,
reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set, keepalive set (10 sec)

Serial0 is up, line protocol is down
Hardware is HD64570
Internet address is 192.168.144.13/30
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1544 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec,
reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
Encapsulation HDLC, loopback not set, keepalive set (10 sec)

The IP route is:

C 192.168.8.0/24 is directly connected, Ethernet0

------------------------------------------

Router 2:

Ethernet0 is up, line protocol is up
Hardware is Lance, address is yyyy.yyyy.yyyy (bia yyyy.yyyy.yyyy)
Internet address is 192.168.0.77/24
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 10000 Kbit, DLY 1000 usec, rely 255/255, load 1/255
Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set, keepalive set (10 sec)

Serial1 is up, line protocol is down
Hardware is HD64570
Internet address is 192.168.144.14/30
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1544 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec, rely 255/255, load 1/255
Encapsulation HDLC, loopback not set, keepalive set (10 sec)

The IP route is:

C 192.168.0.0/24 is directly connected, Ethernet0

I think the routing table is wrong, but i don´t know...

Please help me

Did you set the clock rate on the DCE side?

Also on router1

Router rip
version 2
network 192.168.8.0
network 192.168.144.0
no auto-summary

router2

router rip
version 2
network 192.168.0.0
no auto-summary

Might also make sure ip classless is on both routers.

Sounds like the clock rate wasn't set on the DCE like JOAMON said.

DCE-DTE back to back cable is bad.
