I am working on a clients workstation who has encountered this problem. Does anyone have any idea's on how to approach it?
Steps taken so far :

Uninstall/Re-install Outlook
Run the Detect and Repair
Attemped re-importing the original .PST
Created a second .pst file and tried moving to the new one.

Please note that I am getting various Microsoft Outlook messages such as this: “Can’t open this item”, or “Some of these items could not be moved. They were already moved or deleted or access was denied.” In the case of the latter, I can move the email to my Personal Drive one at a time. I also got “Cannot Start MicroSoft Outlook. A Dialogue Box is open. Close it and try again.” or I have to close MicroSoft Outlook and loose the emails I have started to compose.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I am stil waiting back to hear some of the PST sizes, but i am confident they are below the allowable limit. Ill pass some more information on. This is actually occuring with multiple clients 15-20 + . It is following an office 2000 sp3 update. Clients PST files are located on a network drive (unique share per client on server) so they have thier own drive mapping. The operating system is windows 2000. It is safe to assume the problem is not due to an oversized PST file.

This is a known issue with E2K and W2K SP3. What you're probably seeing is an error message that the PST file can't be found. The users can close Outlook, and they'll be able to see their PST for a while, then lose it again.

There is no resolution, as MS does not recommend using PST files on a network share. Ironically, the problem didn't surface until SP3, and only then after multiple systems would be updated to SP3. We tested SP3 for over a month with no problems, but when we started rolling it out to the desktops, the problem started, and got worse as more desktops were updated to SP3.

We had to move users away from PST to using the Exchange directly, which wasn't a bad thing...after we upgraded our Exchange drives to 350GB.

Thanks for the information - great sig too =)
This is slowly propogating to all of our clients.. we support approx 13.5k . I am having some of our tech's run the Inbox Repair Tool. I'm hoping there is some recourse to this.. post sp3 hotfixes .. anything. This could get messy...
