problems with hard drive

I'm formatting this hard drive, but before I did that, I ran fdisk and deleted then recreated my partitions, then I rebooted. After that I went to format the drive and the message on the screen said, trying to recover allocation unit. Then it said format terminated. What could be the problem here?

try a lowlevel format on the system. There is a program called microscope that I am currently looking for. I don't know the manufacturer. There are other low level format utils out there but this is the best one I have come across yet.
