Problems with AD

I have been setting up Win 2003 networks now for a bit and I have run into a problem. I had set up Win server 2003 with AD and IP address. After I implemented the server I found that the IP address was configured wrong and changed it. Now upon doing this I can no longer connect to my server and can only ping my server with few pcs in my network. I was wondering if anyone else has had similiar problems with changing the IP address of a server 2003 machine with AD and losing connection to the network. So far only fix I found is to uninstall AD and re put it back in which is real time consuming. Any advice would be greatful

What are you using for a DNS server in this case? Are you updating the DNS entries when you change the IP of the machine?

I am using the server as it's own DNS and I tried a flush dns with the server.. And the next issue now I am finding out is that my server is unable to join the Domain.

Did you install a hosts file? You can also search ad and the registry for the bad ip address. Good luck.

Did you change the address of the DNS server?? You may find it's still using the old IP address as the DNS Server IP address.

Thank you for your posts and I will try these possible fixes the next time I work with changing IP addresses on a server and see if these tips help me make AD work without having to delete and re-enter it. God I would love to not have to do that again!!!!

you need to do a net stop netlogon && net start netlogon... so that your DC can register itself in dns with the correct SRV records
check the ip on the SRV records in DNS, see if they have been updated
