Hi,

I just bought a new computer and tried to transfer my Dreamweaver files to my new computer and now Dreamweaver (on my new computer) doesn't recognize the sites that I have created, even though the files are on the computer (I can bring the html files into DW and open them up, but DW doesn't see that they are a part of a site). I transferred the DW program and files by taking the hard drive from my old computer and plugging it into an external hard drive bay and then transferring the program file and other files into my new computer.

Are there some hidden files that I would not be aware of that need to be transferred? On my old computer, I did not have DW on my system drive. Is there some way to transfer files that is more effective?

Thanks.

PS - I have DW MX (the first MX version).

When you install ANY program it makes changes to the registry so you can not just copy the program files to another pc and expect it to work. Lebisol points you to an excellent little export/import tool above, but you will need to do a fresh install on the new pc first.

You can also Export your site information. Be in the site window and go to Export/Site. You will have to do each site separately. I back up my site info like that to bring it to another computer I may be using.

Thanks for the excellent info. I ended up just downloading the site to my new computer from the remote host.

That wont import all of the localhost/remotehost/testing server info

Really? It worked for me. I exported all the site info, brought it to a different location in a different town, and had everything I needed! Maybe I was just lucky?

I guess I don't know what you mean. I am able to do anything to my site that I want to -- make any kind of changes -- upload whatever I want, or delete things. Everything seems to be going as smoothly as it did before on my old computer...

Hello!
I'm having the same problem with my new computer and old website. I'm excited to see there is a solution, but I haven't quite followed how to do this.
I've done some considerable work on my website files without realizing I wouldn't just be able to upload as usual. Can someone baby me through this?
