Everytime I go into my inbox down at the right hand corner of the window it indicates "Receiving Mail". But it takes at least 20min. to get my incoming mail. What could be the problem?

OS: WindowsXP Home
E-Mail Program: Outlook Express 6

One possibility is to check your account setup. See if the incoming server is listed 127.0.0.1. If yes then you probably have a virus e-mail check program running that is scanning your mail as you receive it and it may be slowing you down. joegz

How would I do that? I have an Norton Antivirus Program so could that be it? But still how would I go there to check for that and how could I remove it.

TOOLS - ACCOUNTS
Select the MAIL tab
Select your mail account and click on PROPERTIES.
Click on the SERVER tab
Look at the incoming mail server field and see if the IP address I referred to is listed or if your ISP mail server is listed in that field.

If you see the IP address 127.0.0.1 then Norton is scanning your incoming mail and that is what is slowing you down.

Or open up Norton Antivirus and see if you the program setup to scan for e-mail.

All I see in that feild is "POP3" and also I see my account user name and thats it. But no set of numbers like that.

How big are your emails? Maybe it's downloading big files?

With Outlook closed, open Norton and as a test disable email scanning and see what happens.

You might also want to check Microsoft's knowledge base and search under Outlook Express. I don't have the time to root around there right now.
