Problems pointing Outlook from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 1

I have a rather specific problem htat requires a little background info to understand, so here goes.

I'm currently preparing to migrate my users from my old Exchange 5.5 server on an NT4 domain to an Excahnge 2003 server on a Windows 2003 domain. Currently, users have been migrated over to the new 2003 domain, but are still pointing back to the Exch5.5 server on the old domain for mail (the typical two way trust has been set up between the two domains and SID history was migrated with the users).

Everything has been working great, but I have run into a problem testing how my Excahnge migration. I have mail enabled all users on the new domain. From my own computer, I changed my Mail settings to point my new mailbox on the Exchange 2003 server to ensure that particular functionality. No problems here, everything works as it should. My problem arose when I wanted to switch my Mail setting to point back to the Exchange 5.5 server on the old domain (which at the moment is our production/functional mail server). I get the "The action could noe be completed. The name could not be matched to a name in the address list." message. It's almost as if Outlook doesn't even look at the old Exchange 5.5 server anymore. Even if I type the name of the 5.5 server oin the 'server' field, it will only resolve mailbox names from the new Exchange 2003 server.

I've tried removing all of the Mail services from the control panel combined with deleting my mailbox from the Exchange 2003 server and of course, the standard rebooting.

Does anyone have any insight to provide on this? Hoepfully I've provided a reasonably clear explanation.

Thanks,

I think the problem is that once you connected to the Exchange 2003 server, the value for 001e6602 is set to point to your GC. All directory requests are sent directly to the GC once this value is set. The GC will have no knowledge of your 5.5 environment (assumes an interorg migration).

That did it. I removed my profile and created a new one, problem solved. I can't beleive I didn't think of doing this. Thanks a bunch.
