I have installed 3 new desktops running XP pro. We are having awful problems as the machines are taking ages to login to the AD network. The error log on the local machine contains the following:

Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

I'm sure someone will have seen this problem before and I wonder if anyone can help me sort it.

Thank you

Check the IP settings of these PCs, especially DNS address(es) which should point to your DNS server(s).

Yes make sure you have DNS running and that they are getting the right DNS servers, which should be your servers.

Hi there, the DHCP was supposed to be giving out the DNS information but obviously wasn't (or not very well). I manually entered the DNS settings on the new PC's and they are fine now :)

Thank you
