I am having troubles connecting to a Cisco 2500 router via a RJ-45 to DB9 adaptor. I have actually tried two different 2500 routers on different computers and have the same problem. It tells me that I am connected but it does not display anything.

9600 Bits per second
8 Data bits
Parity none
Stop bits 1
Flow control

have tried com port 1 and 2

I have one but I am not using it I am just using the RJ-45 to DB9 plugging the RJ-45 into the consule port and the db9 into the computer serial port. I have done this before on other routers but can not do it on this one. I suspect that the cable is bad.

Make sure you have NO Flow Control. Once connected press Enter a few times. Is this the flat, black cable with a DB-9 to RJ-45 Adapter? If so, make sure the adapter says Terminal. If the adapter says Modem, use a straight-through cable. If this is the powder blue cable, I have never seen one of these go bad so check your terminal settings.
