Having a problem with a scheduled backup to an IDE disk.

The disk is a 20gb IDE device, installed as a removable drive on my arcserve server (arcserve 2000 advanced). I added a device group, and added th disk to that.

I tested arcserve by backing up a few local files, which seemed fine.

But my scheduled backup at 10:00 pm was a disater. I have a huge list of SCSI port errors, and no backup.

So I guess for some reason Arcserve thinks the device is SCSI?

A little background - I have inherited this setup, the IT manager was laid off a few weeks ago, as the company has money problems. I have an HP surestore 24 which is dead, and for the time being no chance to replace it.

So I have little choice - I know IDE hard drives are probably the last thing you'd use, but that's all I have!

Any tips? Thanks.

You shouldn't be getting errors from file system devices (FSD). ARCserve writes/reads files using the FSD directory.

Did you remove the malfuncting drive? Or turn it off? ARCServe may be trying to use it instead of the FSD. You'll have to use the device manager (windows 2000 or newer) and try scanning for hardware changes so that the O/S no longer sees the device. Or reboot if you are using NT 4. Then restart the tape engine so that it no longer tries to use the tape device. You should only see the FSD in the device manager.

OK, have tried that, and again, it does a manual backup nicely.

Will see what happens tonight, thanks very much for your help.
