Our company has a group of Word doc. files in a network folder that won't open. When you try to open any of the files, word opens and says "requesting virus scan..." at the bottom. It sits there for a minute, then brings up the file conversion box. All of the problem files have the first 2 letters of the filenames replaced with "~$" For example a file named "DOCUMENT.DOC" now says "~$CUMENT.DOC". I'm assuming this is the effects of a virus of some sort. Anybody heard of anything like this?

Nevermind I figured it out. Thanks.

So let us in on the solution you found, some one else may have the same question.

Well, I sort of figured it out. The files were not replaced with the "~$". The original files are still in the folder with their original names and then there are some of the ones with "~$" at the beginning. I am assuming that the files with the ~$ are some kind of temporary files or something, but I'm still not sure why they are still there.
