We haven’t been able to access our webmail since last Saturday. Users can login, they can see all their folders, but when they want to double click on individual message – an error occurs:

HTTP/1.1 500 INTERNAL SERVER ERROR

I’ve restarted the server several times since then, but still nothing. We haven’t made any changes at all recently (except repatching our switches, but all the servers had been restarted).

Don't know about your particular problem but check in IIS that everything running OK. It seems to stop a number of services for me for no reason at all. Which cause problems for ou web users.

sometimes when u restart the exchange server, it stuffs up webmail. u need to go and reset web outlook permissions.
1. Run Internet Information Services from Administrative Tools Menu on QSLEXCH
2. Right Click on the “public” folder on the Default Web and select Properties
3. Select the Directory Security tab
4. Select the Edit button for Anonymous access and authentication control
5. Untick Basic authentication and Integrated Windows Authentication and Tick Anonymous access
6. Press OK, then press Apply on the previous properties page. Then Press Edit again, and untick Anonymous access and retick Basic Authentication. Press OK, the OK to exit out of properties
7. Repeat steps 2-6 again for the folders “Exchange” and “Exadmin”

8. Right click on “Default Web Site” and stop, then start the web service.
