When I try to open an aspx page on my machine i get (in event ID):

The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC'. The error was 'The specified metadata was not found.
'.

This is what I've tried this last attempt (tried hundreds of things before this):

1. Format and reinstall of OS
2. Installed .NET framework
3. Installed IIS (I know, this should've been #2)
4. Installed VS .NET 2003
5. Ran the regiis_aspnet -i fix

Any ideas? Thanks.

Thank you for the post! I have already tried that and just forgot to list it in the things I've tried (I've tried so many I've lost count). I still get the exact same error message. Thanks.

Also my event ID is 36 and the link you posted is for 801. I also previously found a website called eventid.com or something like that and it had a quadrillion fixes on it (i tried them all). I'm going to run through them again but I'll certainly keep checking here if anyone has any ideas.

Still have this issue, anyone? Another symptom when I try to open an ASP .NET project:

The web server reported the following error when attempting to create or open the web project located at the following url: ' 500 Server Error'.

Ime532,
Do you get the same error wen you run Classic asp?
If yes try to Turn off "show friendly URL's".
and turn off Show Friendly HTTP Error Messages under the Internet Options, Advanced tab

one more thing worth a try it disable firewall and virus scanner

Good luck

What would you attempt to accomplish if you knew you would not fail?
