Problem with exporting to excel

I deleted the badge number input mask two days ago. The mask would place an M in front of the badge numbers. Now, the end-user types the M. But when she exports the report to an Excel file all the new badge numbers entered are missing the M. We check the table and all the M's there all there. WHY is that?? What's the problem???

Sys: Windows NT, Access 97, on a LAN
