Problem with Excel opening files

I'm having a real oddball problem:

When my user tries to double-click on an Excel document to open it up it will open Excel and then throw an error that it is unable to find the document or one of it's components. If he just goes into Excel and tries to open the document it works just fine. I've re-installed Office multiple times, including completely removing it once, and ran all available updates.

Any thoughts?

Try Tools / Options / General / Untick 'Ignore Other Applications'
