Hi,

I have been getting some dns errors on the system logs. I did an NSLookup and it gives me:

It says can't find server name for address 219.231.xxx.xxx: Non existent domain.

Then I look at my error logs and it says:

Zone transfer request for secondary zone kxxxc.org refused by master server at 219.231.xxx.xxx. Check the zone at the master server 219.231.xxx.xxx to verify that zone transfer is enabled to this server. To do so, use the DNS console, and select master server 219.231.171.xxx as the applicable server, then in secondary zone kernrc.org Properties, view the settings on the Zone Transfers tab. Based on the settings you choose, make any configuration adjustments there (or possibly in the Name Servers tab) so that a zone transfer can be made to this server.

It sounds like your server is trying to be the secondary server for a particular DNS zone and when your server tries to download a fresh copy of the zone file from the master, it's failing to resolve the name of the master.

Make sure that your server is indeed supposed to be a secondary for some zone, and find out from the other admins responsible for that DNS zone if the IP address for the master server has changed.

When I did some nslookups on the domain that you mentioned above, I didn't see any nameservers with addresses similar to the one that you gave. Only a mailserver in the 66.17.x.x network and hosted nameservers in the 161.58.x.x network.

Have you actually looked at your zone transfer settings?

The master server must be set to allow zone transfers to the secondary. Within the properties of the zone, check the zone transfer tab on the Master server.
