I run an older Compaq machine with 3.5 GB HDD, 64 MB RAM,p2 CPU and Win98 and am having trouble with the colours on my display. I have set the appearance in Display to Windows Standard and the title bar shows up as Black instead of Blue. Also, when I go into Paint, the clour palet at the bottom left hand side shows the correct colours on the bottom row but all the top buttons are black. Has anyone else had the same problem, if so, how do we fix it. I should say that the video drivers are correct and the monitor works fine on another machine......Dave

Go into appearance and change the title bar in "Windows Standard" to a color you like and "Save as" (the scheme) as Windows Standard

Thanks TT4U, I will try that but what about changing the colours in the colour palet in Paint and changing the base colours in the Colour Edit window in Paint?........Dave

This is right from Paint's Help menu

On the Image menu, click
Attributes.
click Colors not Black and white.

Note

If you change back to color, only new work will be in color.

Dear TT4U,
I went to Image/Attributes and Color is already selected. What I really need to do is to select Clor/ Edit Color in the toolbar and then somehow restore the Base Colors but I cannot seem to find how to do this......Dave

Uninstall, reboot, Reinstall.....
uninstall thru Control panel>Add/Remove programs>Windows Setup..click "Accessories", click "Details"
"uncheck" Paint
Reboot
Reinstall Paint..thru Control panel>Add/Remove programs>Windows Setup...click "Accessories", click "Details"
"check" Paint

Thank you all. The problem was the Monitor. I replaced the monitor and all the colors returned......Dave
