hi everybody, i have an aptiva 2134-L22, the hard drive is damage,, so i need to replace, but the problem is that i know that right now to find a 2Gb hard drive is a little hard, so want to buy a 40Gb hard driver (quantum), so besides that the aptiva won't recognize the complete hard drive size, is there a problem if i create two or three partitions of 1.5 Gb??,, so i can use it in this pc, although i know is a waste of space,, but is there any problem with that?? my pc will work correct??

thanks in advance

PD: i don't have the money to buy a new PC.

I used to own a P-166 Aptiva years ago and had to replace the 2GB drive with an 8GB one. I simply made 4 partitions 2GB each. It worked fine. Your other alternative is to upgrade the Operating system (Windows 95 OSR 2 or later) and convert the file system from FAT16 to FAT32. With FAT32 you should be able to see the entire size of the hard drive.

One important note however. If you decide to upgrade to FAT32, you must also make sure your BIOS is the latest version. Older ones could not see more than 7.8GB according to Microsoft. You may want to check out at IBM's website first to see if the IDE controller interface on your system needs to be updated.
