just recently istalled Windows XP and everything seems to be running OK. However I've noticed that after I installed it my processor (AMD Athlon 1.4GHz) is now only running at 1.06GHz (in systems properties and I also checked using a CPU check program from AMD's website).

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is or how i'd fix it?

Thanks

mmmmm

check the cloxk multiplier on your mobo. It could be that your board only allows the chip to run at 3/4 of its true speed.

Make sure your mobo is compatible with 266FSB athlons - this problem occurs where 200FSB boards are coupled with 266FSB chips....... T3/\/\p()

It is unlikely the OS would cause this issue ... confirm the motherboard jumpers and the frontside bus speed ... an Athlon 1.4 with a 266FSB will register just over 1.0 if set to a 200FSB configuration

may need more info as to MB type to confirm

Is your processor an Athlon XP ?
AMD chose to use a model number that was nothing to do with the clock speed with it's xp range. An XP1800 will run at 1.53 Ghz, an XP1500 runs at 1.33Ghz. I don't remember if AMD made an XP1400, but if they did, it would have run at just over 1Ghz.

If it's not an XP, then its a fair bet that your FSB speed is incorrectly set, if you mobo permits higher.

You will find it set to 100/133 in the bios and not 133/133 as it should be to get 1400mhz.
And No they didn't do an XP 1400. Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!

Yep it must have reverted back to 100MHz after I installed XP for some reason. It was running at 1400MHz before I upgraded to XP from ME, so something strange must have happened in the install. I changed the FSB to 133MHz and its back at 1400MHz.

Im unsure of the exact mobo model as im at my work computer at the moment. But its an ASUS model and im running DDR RAM (266MHz). Not to worry, its working sweet now

And no its not an XP, just an AMD Athlon 1400MHz.

Thanks guys.
