Hi, I have a Computer with Windows XP. I recently removed viruses and adwares with Norton Antivirus 2005. Now when the computer is starting it shows the users screen.. when I choose a User the computer says "Logging in" and seconds later it says "Logging off" and the "users screen" appears again.

What can I do to restore my computer?
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Can you get into Safe Mode (press F8 when windows starts loading)?

A repair reinstall might do the trick -
(need to reapply latest service pack - unless you have a SP2 install disk - see for example if you want to create on and visit windows updates, but it should leave your data, apps and settings intact (it resets some permissions to default values).

btw - personal preference - hate Norton AV (lots of problems from users of it). AVG free app is much better IMO - couple with something like the Microsoft Antispyware beta or spybot/adaware.

Bcastner, I tried your solutions but doesn't work at all.:(
It is doing the same thing. I try to log in using Safe mode but in the same "user screen" it freezes.

other suggestions that I can follow?
Thanks

Have you tried any other users to eliminate a corrupt profile?

A second opinion might be worth while in case any malware is still causing a problem.

A second reason can be security polciy settings:

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console for Windows XP (Q307654)

Try running ChkDsk /r from the Recovery Console.
