I've just got a 40gb hard drive and formatted it and installed Win Xp Pro on it.

But whenever I shutdown it brings up a message saying "devldr32.exe is not responding" and I click the 'end now' option but it does nothing and doesn't even shutdown. I try pressing ctrl alt del and that doesn't even come up...therefore I have to reset it all the time

DEVLDR32 is probably a driver for a sound card. It may be an idea to reinstall the card. You can also try to exclude the driver from the startup process, running MSCONFIG.

thanks for your help guys

much appreciated
