I'm building a site in Dreamweaver but am having a problem in viewing pages. As I construct the site I use the previewing capabilities of the software and preview what I just made. All is well until I link pages. The first page is fine but when I click to another only the text shows up. No sounds, flash, jpgs, ect. No anything. But when I preview the page I'm having trouble viewing by itself, I can see and hear everything that's supposed to be on it.
This also happens with the window pop ups I'm installing. If I have anything on them other then text nothing shows up.
I don't have a host yet and am building and reviewing my site only on my hard drive. I'm thinking possibly this is the problem. Any help?

Ray

You need to define a remote site, even if it is on your local PC using "Personal Web Server" and upload all of the images and files to the defined folder. Tyr looking in the help files for "Defining Remote sites" or using "Personal Web server" Live long and make your kids suffer..

Thanks for the great help. I only have a local folder set up in Dreamweaver (the right side of the site window with nothing at all on the left side or remote site side). I thought this side was for the the remote host only. I never thought that not having this set upit would make a difference in me being able to preview my site in the browser. Are there concrete steps to set this up on my hard drive? Difficulty in doing it?

My appreciation again.

Go to a free ISP and get some free webspace, then follow their instructions for FTP ing to your free space and define that as the remote info.

This is handy for testing new sites and cheap!

Hope this helps

Hi
I hope you can help
I design my page in dreamweaver and it works great as it is supposed to on explorer but when others
use netscape it dosent work as well error messages like it cant find the page.
You can get to the first 2 pages, end up on the main page from intro page but when you use the buttons or links it comes up with error 404 cant find page, but it works great on explorer what have i done wrong or what can i do to fix it.
hope you can help
Kind regards Fred Leduc deluc@access.net.au

A free isp is not a bad idea, but I personally prefer using PWS or in 2000 it is called IIS. Basically it means that you are using your own PC as a development server. Once you are then happy with your site you can upload it to the live server and, as they say, "Jobs a Good Un".. Live long and make your kids suffer..

Cheech,
I'm having this same problem only, with a mac. I'm wondering if there is a IIS equivilent for the the macintosh that I can use to view my site. I too can only view it if I load it as a preview from dramweaver.
