Hi,
Using IIS 5.0 and ASP I am trying to send email from my home machine. My emails go fine when I use cable modem which is connected to a router. I was geting this error

"Message delivery to the remote domain 'hotmail.com' failed for the following reason: An internal DNS error caused a failure to find the remote server."

but then if I go to Control panel/Network connection/TCP IP properties and add my ISP primary and secondory DNS server name there it take care of the error

But using different ISP with DSL modem (conneted to the router) when I do the same thing unfortunately above error get replaced by the other error.

"Message delivery to the remote domain 'hotmail.com' failed for the following reason: The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt."

I don't know where the problem is
thanks

Either the DNS server on the other ISP is configured incorrectly or your computer is configured with the wrong DNS server IP address.

Each ISP has there own DNS servers. When you switched to the other ISP, it sounds like your TCP/IP settings (Primary and Secondary DNS) are still using the first ISP's DNS. I am pretty sure that you need to use the DNS of the ISP you are using.

I know what I know and that's all I know. What I don't know I'll find out.

Thanks for your replies. I noticed that in
Control panel/Network connection/TCP IP properties
even if you put DNS server that are not that of your ISP as long as they are valid my emails go fine in my ISP (Rogers, cable modem).

In fact while using ISP "Rogers" I put the DNS servers of my ISP "Bell" (ISP where I am having problem) my emails went fine. But when I switch to "Bell" then even if I put there own DNS server I get the error.

"Message delivery to the remote domain 'hotmail.com' failed for the following reason: The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt."

Thanks

Why are you putting the DNS server in manually anyways? Let it be autoconfigured. I'm also using Bell Sympatico and I have no problems with hotmail.

Thanks for your reply. Do you have residential account of Bell Symatico or business? I have residential.

I tried "Obtain DNS automatically", but when I have this I get this error..

"Message delivery to the remote domain 'hotmail.com' failed for the following reason: An internal DNS error caused a failure to find the remote server."

I was geting the same error on "Rogers" when I connect through the router , but when I added DNS server name manually everthing worked fine after that. I was hoping same this will work on "Bell"

thanks

You not using dhcp? I'm using a cable modem with a wireless router, set it up as stricly dhcp for all machines except my server (Which is for testing) and all works great. No need to play with dns if using dhcp.

I'm using a residential connection with a Linksys Wireless router. My laptops are set to automatically obtain the IP address and DNS info from the DHCP server.

When you're changing ISPs on the router are you disconnecting the router's Internet connection and then reconnecting to ensure it is on a different ISP?

Thanks for your messages. I put it back to "Obtain DNS automaticaly". Yes I reboot everthing to make sure changes are in effect. When I go to my TCP/IP advance setting I see DHCP enabled. I don't know why then I keep geting this error.

aznluvsmc what OS and web server are you using? , I am on W2k advanced server and IIS 5.0.

Thanks

I have a laptop running Windows XP Pro SP1, another 2 laptops running Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP4, another laptop with Windows 2000 Pro SP1, and a desktop running Windows 98SE.

I'm not actually running any web servers but I have my DNS on one of the servers to forward to my ISPs DNS server.

May be that's what i need to do to have my own DNS server , that may solve my problem. Is there any other setting you changed in TCP/IP properties to make it work?

All my servers have a static IP in the range of 192.168.1.x. My Linksys router acts as a DHCP server for the network. All client computers are DHCP clients but have their DNS configuration to point to my internal DNS server. The servers also point to the internal DNS server.

Thanks for your message. Don't you think it is strange that with same settings I can send email through "Rogers" but with "Bell" keeping evertghing the same I get the "Internal DSN error" ?

I am connected through Inexq router (non wireless), I tried changing router too and use D-Link router, it did not make any difference.
Thanks
