Greetings. This problem is a recent one with XP. This has not been an issue in the past, and I have no idea why it is happening now: I go to a website, say the National World War II Memorial. There is a picture on this website which is a .JPG file. I like the picture and decide to download it. The size of the file is approximately 1MB. When I go to download the file, the "Save Picture" dialog box will only give me the option of a Bitmap (.BMP) file format. Even if I go ahead and name it with a .JPG extension, the resulting file will be about six times as large as the actual file (about 6MB). The "Save Picture" dialog box will only display any current .BMP files in the save directory, and will not display any current .JPG files, even though they are there. The only way I have found to circumvent this problem is to e-mail the picture to myself and then save it. This is driving me nuts. Anyone seen this before? Thanks a lot. Steve

I guess you're using Internet Explorer?

Go to Tools - Internet options. Then delete temporary internet files. That should do it!

Hope I got the names right, my IE is in norwegian....

Many thanks to pr24 and linney. The removal of the temporary internet files solved the problem, and I removed the Unknown Downloaded Program Files as well. I really appreciate your quick responses. Steve
