I recently upgraded to Win98 SE and ever since then I have not been unable to change the color settings on my monitor. Originally, only 16 colors were available, but after I re-installed my graphics driver, I was given 256 color and 16 (bit) color option. However, when I go to change the colors and re-start my computer, the changes do not stick. It stays in 16 Color. I have run out of ideas, do you have any suggestions? [sig][/sig]

I had this recently,

The only way found to work round was.

1. Remove the graphics adapter from h/w profiles
2. Reseat the graphics card in a new slot (if possible)
3. Reboot the machine and set the graphics card to a standard adapter.
4. Reboot to accept changes then, install the latest drivers for you card, and reboot.

This process although a bit of a pain, gave me full True Colour graphics..

Good Luck..

I have the same problem, I'm now stuck with 4 bit color and 640x480 on Win ME. I tried the suggestion above, but there's not another slot I can reseat the graphics card in.

I saw some advice that I need pnpdrvr.drv. But I can't find this file on my system nor the original CDs. Nor on the Dell and Microsoft web sites.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Everything I've tried hasn't worked.

you may mean the entry in SYSTEM.INI under
[boot]
oemfonts.fon=8514oem.fon
system.drv=system.drv
drivers=mmsystem.dll power.drv
shell=Explorer.exe
user.exe=user.exe
gdi.exe=gdi.exe
sound.drv=mmsound.drv
dibeng.drv=dibeng.dll
comm.drv=comm.drv
mouse.drv=mouse.drv
keyboard.drv=keyboard.drv
*DisplayFallback=0
fonts.fon=8514sys.fon
fixedfon.fon=8514fix.fon
386Grabber=vgafull.3gr
display.drv=pnpdrvr.drv <--THIS HERE!

it's not a file to be found on the HDD

WinME may be diff in this respect (I know it doesn't use Config,sys and Autoexec,bat anymore)

try the ME forum748
just provide a link back to here so you don't cross post

usually you remove all drivers and software from ADD/REMOVE Programs in Control Panel - then boot into Safe Mode and Remove the Display Adapter from Device Manager
